Is cheilitis serious

In life, many people are not very familiar with cheilitis and think that this disease may occur at any time. In fact, there is nothing to worry about. Although cheilitis is not a serious disease, it at least causes considerable harm to our body. It may even cause deformation of the patient's lips and even cause allergies.

What are the tests for cheilitis?

There are various types of cheilitis, including dry and desquamative cheilitis, allergic cheilitis, benign lymphoproliferative cheilitis, granulomatous cheilitis, glandular cheilitis, fungal cheilitis, and photosensitive cheilitis. There are different examination methods for different types of cheilitis.

Dry and desquamative cheilitis: Pathological examination shows vacuolar degeneration and solar degeneration of basal cells.

Eczematous erosive cheilitis: If it is actinic cheilitis, pathological examination can show edema within and between cells of acute lesions and blister formation. If it is benign lymphoproliferative cheilitis, pathological examination may reveal proliferation of submucosal lymphoid follicles.

Pathological examination of adenoid cheilitis can reveal nonspecific glandular hyperplasia, swelling, and infiltration of inflammatory cells.

Pathological examination of granulomatous cheilitis shows granulomatous nodules with Langhans cells.

Malnutrition-induced angular cheilitis mainly manifests itself in the deficiency of B vitamins. Bacterial angular cheilitis is shown to be caused by streptococcal and staphylococcal infections, but its clinical manifestations are similar to those of malnutrition-induced angular cheilitis. Therefore, care must be taken to differentiate them in order to prescribe the right medicine. Fungal angular cheilitis is caused by fungal infection, mainly Candida albicans infection. The differentiation between fungal angular cheilitis and bacterial angular cheilitis is mainly based on culture smears and PAS staining. A clear diagnosis can be made when Candida hyphae are seen during examination.

The above is an introduction to the examinations for cheilitis. I hope it will be helpful to you.
