Does clubfoot necessarily mean cerebral palsy?

Clubfoot is a very common phenomenon in normal times. If you have clubfoot, it will have a serious impact on your child's daily life and physical health. Clubfoot usually causes the foot to adduct, and sometimes there will be Achilles tendon spasm. There are many reasons for clubfoot. Some people associate clubfoot with cerebral palsy and think that clubfoot is cerebral palsy. Is clubfoot definitely cerebral palsy?

Does clubfoot necessarily mean cerebral palsy?

Clubfoot does not necessarily mean cerebral palsy, but if the child has cerebral palsy and also has clubfoot, it is necessary to seek treatment as early as possible. The earlier the treatment, the better.

Characteristics of clubfoot

l. Congenital clubfoot. In real life, some babies are born with bipedalism, bipedalism and equinus, which usually occurs on both sides and is twice as common in males as in females. Typical symptoms are tight soft tissue on the medial side of the foot, inability to abduct forward, and tight heel that cannot dorsiflex.

2. Newborn's foot is inverted. In addition to congenital talipes equinovarus, neonatal talipes varus may also occur. However, the talipes varus is often on one side. The foot is talipes varus, but the inner side of the foot is not tight. The foot can be dorsiflexed to touch the front of the femur. After 1 to 2 months of fixation and bandaging, it will return to normal after washing.

3. Occult spina bifida. People with clubfoot may have occult spina bifida, which is usually unilateral. The inner side of the forefoot can be abducted, and there may be numbness on the outer side of the foot. Some may be accompanied by symptoms of urinary and fecal incontinence. X-rays or CT scans can confirm the presence of spina bifida.

4. Clubfoot caused by myelitis. The prevalence of this disease is relatively high in age, generally over 4 years old. Patients will have a history of fever, which is more common on one side. There is paralysis of the long and short muscles without fixed deformity. Other muscles are more obviously paralyzed, but urination and defecation are not affected.

5. Cerebral palsy and clubfoot. In real life, some babies are born with clubfoot, which usually disappears during sleep but reappears upon stimulation. The deformity is mainly clubfoot, with less inversion and no adduction. The deformity is bilateral or on the same side of the upper and lower limbs, with crossed gait on both lower limbs, obvious spasm of the adductor muscles, and is often accompanied by intellectual changes.
