What to do if the BCG vaccine becomes festering and ruptures

Now the country encourages children to get vaccinated from an early age, so as to prevent babies from contracting some infectious diseases. BCG vaccine is one of them, but some parents reported that their children developed suppurative reactions after receiving the BCG vaccine, and the suppurative areas might even break, and even after they healed, scars would appear on the body. So, what should you do if the BCG tube becomes purulent and breaks?

BCG is a slow-acting vaccine and no obvious local reaction will occur after vaccination. From the needle hole - no local symptoms - local redness - soybean-sized red bags - local pus bags - rupture and pus discharge - scab - scab falling off - small scars (lasting lifelong) The whole process will last for several months and the scars will remain for life.

When the BCG abscess breaks, the baby may feel a little pain and may cry, but this is normal. The baby should be treated with medicine to ensure dryness and ventilation. Recommendation: If it comes into contact with water, the exposed area should be bandaged to reduce local friction, and erythromycin ointment should be applied externally.

After the abscess bursts, an ulcer surface will appear. Be careful not to get it wet frequently and keep the local area dry. A scab will form automatically after a while, and a scar will be left after the scab falls off. BCG will cause the tumor to rot from the inside to the outside. When the abscess bursts, it will form a scar. This means that the vaccination was successful. Just pay attention to the care and you can continue to take a bath. We should not worry too much about diseases like BCG impetus in our lives.

How to care for redness, swelling and suppuration

1. When BCG starts to become red and swollen, no treatment is required.

2. When pustules start to appear but have not broken, there is no need to treat them. Just be careful not to get them there when bathing or getting dressed.

3. When the abscess bursts, it is also a normal reaction process. There is no need to be nervous. You can use a sterile cotton ball to dry the area, keep the area breathable, and wait for the scab to form.

4. You can also apply some alcohol for disinfection. Just use the low-concentration alcohol you use to apply on belly buttons. But some doctors say that there is no need to use iodine or alcohol for disinfection.

5. No need to cover it with Band-Aid or something like that.

6. You can take a bath and breastfeed normally. During the period of suppuration and ulceration, be sure to dry the suppurated area after taking a bath.

7. Some children do not have obvious suppuration at the injection site, which does not mean that the vaccination has failed. The tuberculin skin test can tell whether the vaccination is successful.
