What to do if hydrochloric acid gets on the skin

Hydrochloric acid is very dangerous and corrosive. It can corrode anything it comes into contact with, such as small sticks, strips of cloth, skin, etc. Among them, erosion of the skin is the most dangerous, and when the strength of hydrochloric acid is too high, it can seriously erode the bones. It is very dangerous, so people should be careful when coming into contact with hydrochloric acid. If hydrochloric acid accidentally gets on your skin, treat it immediately and don't ignore it. Specific instructions on what to do if hydrochloric acid gets on your skin.

Hydrochloric acid is an aqueous solution of hydrogen chloride. It is a monobasic inorganic strong acid with a wide range of industrial uses. Hydrochloric acid is a colorless, transparent liquid with a strong pungent odor and is highly corrosive. Concentrated hydrochloric acid (mass fraction is about 37%) is extremely volatile. Therefore, when the container containing concentrated hydrochloric acid is opened, the hydrogen chloride gas will evaporate and combine with water vapor in the air to produce small droplets of hydrochloric acid, causing acid mist to appear above the bottle mouth. Hydrochloric acid is the main component of gastric acid, which can promote food digestion and resist microbial infection.

When using hydrochloric acid, personal protective equipment should be worn. Such as rubber gloves or polyvinyl chloride gloves, goggles, chemical-resistant clothing and shoes, etc. to reduce the risk of direct contact with hydrochloric acid. Operate in a closed environment and pay attention to ventilation. The operation should be mechanized and automated as much as possible. Operators must undergo special training and strictly abide by operating procedures.

In case of skin contact, immediately remove contaminated clothing and rinse with plenty of running water for at least 15 minutes. Apply a weak alkaline substance (such as alkaline water, soapy water, etc.) and seek medical attention. If there are obvious droplets on the skin, wipe them first and then rinse them. If there are no obvious acid drops, rinse with water. The method of use is to wipe it dry with a rag first, then wash it with plenty of water, then wash it with 3~5% sodium bicarbonate solution, and finally rinse it with plenty of water.
