What to do if your nails are broken

What to do if your nails are broken

In daily life, people often suffer nail injuries due to various reasons. If the nail injury is not serious, you just need to take good care of the wound, but if it is serious, you need to go to the hospital for bandaging. In addition, nail symptoms are closely related to people's health. If the nails are abnormal, people should pay close attention. Here we will introduce to you some common problems about nails.

1. Clubbing

The nails are prominently arched upward and curve around the finger. Nail clubbing may indicate emphysema, tuberculosis, cardiovascular disease, ulcerative colitis, or cirrhosis of the liver.

2. Blue Crescent

If the crescent-shaped white mark at the base of the nail has a blue halo, it may indicate any of the following conditions: obstructed blood circulation, heart disease, Raynaud's syndrome, or vasospasm in the fingers and toes, usually due to cold exposure. But it is sometimes associated with rheumatoid arthritis or the autoimmune disease lupus erythematosus.

3. Spoon-shaped nails

The middle of the nail sinks, and the entire nail becomes flat or spoon-shaped. This type of nails is related to iron deficiency anemia, syphilis, thyroid disorders, rheumatic fever, etc.

4. Lindsay's Nails

The nail is pink or brown near the tip and white near the nail. This type of nail is also called bipartite nail and may be a sign of chronic renal failure.

5. Beau's Lines

The appearance of horizontal grooves on the nails indicates malnutrition or a serious illness that temporarily affects nail growth, such as measles, rib inflammation, or a sudden heart attack.

6. Thali's nails

Most of the skin under the nail has turned white, with only a small area near the tip of the nail still showing its normal pink color. This may indicate cirrhosis of the liver.

7. Yellow nail syndrome

The nails grow slower and become thicker and harder; they are yellow or green. Causes include chronic respiratory diseases, thyroid disease or lymphoma.

8. Bleeding

If these vertical red lines appear on the nails, it means microvascular bleeding. If multiple such blood lines appear, it may indicate chronic high blood pressure, psoriasis or a fatal infection called subacute bacterial endocarditis.
