Why does my face turn red after running?

Everyone should be very familiar with the reaction after running. After running, people usually breathe rapidly, pant heavily, and their faces become very red. The temperature is difficult to reduce in a short time. Blushing after running is a very normal physiological reaction. It will generally subside after walking slowly for a distance and resting for a while. So, what is the reason for blushing after running?

1. Physiological factors

When we run, as our body temperature rises, our body begins to sweat to dissipate heat. At the same time, under the action of adrenaline, blood vessels begin to dilate, blood circulation speeds up, and more blood flows to the skin. Because the skin on our face is thinner and has relatively abundant capillaries, when it is exposed to certain stimuli, it will cause the small capillaries to burst, resulting in the "blushing" phenomenon.

Therefore, runners with thinner facial stratum corneum will find that their facial skin is more sensitive and they may blush after running for a few steps!

2. Breathing method

When running, we tend to breathe deeply to meet our oxygen needs, but even so, the oxygen we inhale may still not be enough, and the occurrence of hypoxia may cause blushing. It is recommended to breathe through both mouth and nose.

3. Surrounding environment

In addition to the heat we generate ourselves, the sudden changes in temperature caused by excessive temperature differences can also make our cheeks red. When the temperature is high, the blood vessels in the face will expand, and when the temperature is low, the blood vessels in the face will contract.

4. Psychological factors

Another situation is blushing caused by psychological factors such as embarrassment, shame, shyness, etc. For example, you accidentally tripped and fell to the ground; when you were running, you met someone you had admired for a long time...

Generally speaking, it is normal to have a red face after running, and it will disappear after a short rest. However, if there are other uncomfortable symptoms, it is better to seek medical attention in time.

The main reason for blushing after running is that running increases the body's temperature, dilates blood vessels, and speeds up blood flow. So if you want to alleviate this phenomenon, just proper hydration and cooling will be enough. But don't wash your face with too cold water to lower the temperature of your facial skin. Although cold causes blood vessels to constrict, when the temperature rises, the blood vessels will rebound and expand, causing blushing.
