What to do if your hand is burned by spicy food

In life, many people like to eat chili peppers, but no one likes to cut chili peppers because after cutting the peppers, the whole hand will feel very uncomfortable, just like being burned by spicy food. Sometimes it will even turn red and painful. If you don’t remember to rub your eyes with your hands, then the feeling may be unforgettable and may cause eye inflammation. So what should you do if your hands are burned by spicy food?

What to do if your hands get hot while cutting peppers

1. In daily life, you can apply alcohol to dissolve the capsaicin on your hands. After cutting peppers, you can wipe your hands in one direction with an alcohol cotton ball, then wash your hands with clean water, and then dry them. Do this three times until the symptoms are relieved.

2. You can also wash your hands with a small amount of vinegar. This is because vinegar is acidic and can neutralize capsaicin. If there is no medical alcohol or vinegar, washing your hands with hot water is also a good idea, because capsaicin will produce irritating evaporation under high temperature. Although it is not as effective as alcohol and vinegar, it is worse than cold water.

3. You can rub the tea leaves in your hands, which can help remove spiciness. Soaking in herbal tea leaves for 2 minutes can relieve the burning sensation.

4. Apply sugar on your hands, scrub them with clean water, and then wash them again with soap.

5. Wash it clean with soap and then soak it in rice washing water for a while.

6. Rub your hands with orange peel.

7. Soak your hands in salt water.

8. Don’t wash your hands first. Rub them with dry flour first, then rub them for a while and then wash them. The effect is very good.

The substance that produces the spicy taste in chili peppers is a type of capsaicin, which is collectively called capsaicin. When cutting peppers, capsaicin sticks to the skin, causing the capillaries to dilate, resulting in redness and heat of the skin, and accelerating the local metabolic rate. At the same time, it will stimulate the pain nerves, which is why we usually feel burning hands. Chili pepper is alkaline, so you cannot use alkaline soap to wash your wounds, as the more you wash, the more painful it will be.

Tips to prevent spicy food from getting on your hands:

Removing the spicy smell after your hands have gotten on them is one consideration, but it would be better if you could prevent your hands from getting on the spicy smell in the first place.

1. Before cutting peppers, apply cooking oil on the hands holding the peppers and then cut them. This way, even if the peppers stick to your hands, you can wash the oil off your hands with soap after cutting, and it will not get on your skin.

2. Put a plastic bag on the hand holding the pepper, or cut it with scissors. When cutting peppers, press the peppers with the tips of your fingers instead of pinching them with your fingernails. This way, your hands will not be easily burned.

3. The most direct and effective method is to wear gloves, but it is easy to cut the gloves.
