What are the four items of eugenics checked?

For a couple, the biggest dream is to give birth to a healthy baby smoothly. To realize this wish, the couple needs to do a lot of things. Now everyone knows the importance of eugenics, so before pregnancy, the couple should go to the hospital together for a pre-pregnancy check, also known as the four eugenics tests. This check must be done in a regular large hospital. The detailed examination contents are as follows.

What are the four items of eugenics checked?

The four eugenics tests commonly performed in clinical practice include toxoplasmosis, rubella virus, cytomegalovirus, and herpes simplex virus.

1. Toxoplasma gondii: A zoonotic disease. People who often come into contact with pets such as cats and dogs are easily infected. Infection in early pregnancy can cause fetal malformations such as hydrocephalus, microcephaly, and blindness, and termination of pregnancy is recommended; infection in late pregnancy generally does not cause fetal developmental abnormalities, but severe infection is prone to occur in the neonatal period, causing abnormal development of the nervous system, and early examination of brain damage should be noted.

2. Rubella virus: Transmitted through the respiratory tract, infection in early pregnancy can cause congenital cataracts, congenital heart disease and sensorineural deafness in the fetus. Termination of pregnancy is recommended; infection after 20 weeks of pregnancy generally does not cause fetal malformations.

3. Cytomegalovirus: Infection can cause intrauterine growth retardation, microcephaly, encephalitis, retinitis, hemolysis, high neonatal mortality rate, and can be transmitted through breastfeeding.

4. Herpes simplex virus: Infection in early pregnancy can cause miscarriage. Infection in mid- to late-pregnancy generally does not cause malformations, but may occur in the neonatal period. From the perspective of eugenics, it is necessary to conduct the "four eugenics" examinations before and during pregnancy. Expectant women should have a check-up three months before planned pregnancy, and if any abnormality is found, wait until it is cured before getting pregnant. If any abnormalities are found during pregnancy examinations, active treatment measures should be taken under the guidance of a doctor to minimize the risks.

It is reminded that in addition to undergoing necessary examinations, women who are preparing to become pregnant should also pay attention to their own hygiene, keep themselves clean at ordinary times, try to avoid having too many sexual partners, and try to avoid crowded and poorly ventilated places during the period of preparing to become pregnant to within three months of pregnancy.

The purpose of the four eugenics examinations

The four eugenics tests are actually tests for pathogenic factors of intrauterine infection. The common feature of infection by this group of pathogens is that the pregnant woman herself does not have obvious symptoms, but the infection can be transmitted to the fetus through the placenta or birth canal, causing miscarriage, premature birth, stillbirth, fetal malformation, neonatal infection and abnormal development of the nervous system.

1. If the fetus is not infected, the pregnant woman can receive treatment to prevent fetal infection;

2. If the fetus is already infected and the internal organs are already abnormal, doctors usually recommend that the pregnant woman terminate the pregnancy;

3. Although the fetus has been infected, no internal organ abnormalities have been found. After the pregnant woman receives standardized treatment at the eugenics clinic, she may give birth to a healthy baby. However, the impact of the viral infection may only be gradually reflected during the child's growth.

Therefore, we remind you that the four eugenics examinations must be done, which can minimize the probability of fetal malformations.
