Can Astragalus Polysaccharide Kill Bacteria?

Can Astragalus Polysaccharide Kill Bacteria?

Astragalus polysaccharide is a kind of polysaccharide substance extracted by current scientific technology. Astragalus polysaccharide powder is light yellow, the fine powder is particularly uniform and does not contain any impurities. In general, Astragalus polysaccharides have significant effects in fighting viruses, improving immunity, preventing aging, and fighting tumors. Since Astragalus polysaccharide is a pure Chinese medicine preparation, its toxic side effects are extremely small.

Antibacterial and antiviral effects

Astragalus polysaccharide has a significant antagonistic effect on tuberculosis infection; other components such as amino acids, bioalkalis, and flavonoids have been found to have significant anti-follicular stomatitis virus effects. Animal and cell experiments showed that Astragalus injection had a certain blocking effect on the infection process of epidemic hemorrhagic fever virus (EHFV) in suckling mice. Astragalus has antibacterial effects on Shigella dysenteriae, anthrax bacteria, a-streptococci, sanguis streptococci, diphtheria bacteria, pseudodiphtheria bacteria, pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, lemon-colored Staphylococcus, white Staphylococcus and Bacillus subtilis in vitro.

Effects on the immune system

Studies have shown that Astragalus polysaccharides have the effect of enhancing immunity and promoting both nonspecific immunity and specific immunity. Astragalus polysaccharide can affect the immune organs, mainly the thymus and spleen. It can promote the development of the chicken bursa and spleen and increase their weight.

Hepatoprotective effect

Astragalus has the effect of protecting the liver and preventing the reduction of liver glycogen. Two astragaloside glycosides, ASI and SK, can counteract liver damage caused by D-galactosamine and acetaminophen. Astragaloside is the effective component of Astragalus against liver toxicity. Its mechanism is related to metabolic regulation in addition to anti-biological oxidation. Other studies have shown that Astragalus has a certain effect in preventing liver fibrosis.

Anti-tumor effect

Astragalus polysaccharide has a significant inhibitory effect on a variety of experimental tumor oils. Animal experiments have shown that astragalus polysaccharide has similar anti-tumor effects to IL-2/LAK, and has a significant enhancing effect on the anti-tumor effect of IL-2/LAK. The combined use of the two can significantly enhance the killing ability of LAK cells on target cells. The dynamic cellular immune function observation of the two was combined, indicating that both of them have the effect of resisting the decline of mouse spleen NK cell activity and IL-2 production ability. This indicates that the anti-tumor effect of Astragalus polysaccharides is related to its effect in enhancing the body's immune function. It can improve the body's immune function caused by tumors, promote the activation of immune cells to release endogenous factors, prevent peroxidation and thus cause the killing and inhibition of tumor cells, and is used to treat Marek's disease in chickens.

Intestinal health care

Astragalus polysaccharide can increase the number of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium in the intestines of chicks, significantly reduce the number of Escherichia coli, effectively promote the proliferation of beneficial intestinal microorganisms, and inhibit harmful intestinal bacteria. The metabolites are short-chain fatty acids that can lower intestinal pH. On the one hand, a low pH value can stimulate intestinal peristalsis, thereby reducing the number of pathogenic bacteria. On the other hand, the acidic environment is conducive to the proliferation of beneficial bacteria such as lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria. At the same time, beneficial bacteria produce metabolites with antibacterial activity such as hydrogen peroxide and organic acids during the proliferation process, which can inhibit the survival of pathogenic harmful bacteria and exogenous pathogens.
