Why some people are not photogenic

When we see celebrities on TV or in photos, we probably think they are very beautiful. However, some good-looking people don’t look so good when they walk into photos or appear on TV. Moreover, when people take photos in daily life, they will obviously feel that they look relatively good in themselves, but turn out to be ugly in the photos. So why do some people say they are not photogenic?

First of all, the image presented by the human eye is binocular vision, while the camera lens is monocular vision, which loses a lot of three-dimensional sense.

Secondly, the focal length and field of vision of the human eye can be adjusted flexibly. If a person looks particularly good from certain angles, that will quickly raise our evaluation of her appearance, but it is difficult for the camera to record the most beautiful side just right.

Finally, when looking at people’s faces in real life, we are always attracted by their advantages and downplay their shortcomings, but photos are absolutely static and every flaw will be magnified.

So many girls who look "not bad" in real life have big and crooked faces when they are in front of the camera. The truth should be:

Most good-looking people look better in person than in photos;

Some good-looking people basically do not lose their looks after appearing on camera;

For some good-looking people, photos look better than in person.

So apart from the lens problem, what factors will affect how good we look on camera?

Not wide face

The faces that look more photogenic are narrower. Oval faces, melon-seed faces, especially those with a more obvious chin, do not easily appear larger in the camera.

Although a big face is matched with big features, at first glance, the face with a narrower face and a more prominent chin has an advantage.

We often say that celebrities' square faces look bigger, but in fact, their square faces are obviously longer than they are wide, and they don't look that big in reality.

If you really have a short and wide face, then you are really at a disadvantage, unless your head and face are really small enough.

Smooth bone lines

The camera's capture and enhancement of the sense of bone is really cruel. Problems such as cheekbones that are too high or too low, zygomatic arches that are enlarged and temples that are sunken, and uneven bone lines will become more obvious when on camera.

A face that looks good on camera will have relatively flat bones both horizontally and vertically.

But even if you have high cheekbones, if you want to look good on camera, at least the lines should be smooth. If there are problems with both the cheekbones and zygomatic arches, it will be difficult to find the angle.

Smooth muscle lines

Facial bones are innate, but muscle lines are also largely related to acquired habits. Asymmetrical chewing, bad expression habits, sleeping habits, etc. will have an impact.

But the most critical factor is the ups and downs of the bones. It is not obvious when you are plump, but once you become thinner and your bones grow, grooves will easily appear.

People who smile beautifully in front of the camera have very clean muscle lines, no extra laugh lines, and a refreshing face.

Basic symmetry

The three parts of the face and five eyes can be seen clearly in the camera. If the face is crooked, the eyebrows are high and low, or the face is asymmetrical, it will be magnified several times.

Goddess Chen Shu likes to take photos with her head tilted or from a side angle, because the asymmetry of her eyebrows and eyes is quite obvious when viewed from the front.

But this level is not easy to detect in daily life. So sometimes I think my eyebrows and eyes are quite straight, but when I am photographed, I find that my eyes are not on the same level.
