Symptoms of colon inflammation_Symptoms of colitis

The intestines are a place that is prone to infection and extremely sensitive, because they often need to filter what we eat and decompose things. Eventually, they will be invaded by some viruses and cause colitis and ulcerative enteritis. After the disease occurs, it will mainly be accompanied by abdominal pain, diarrhea, and mucous stools, as well as serious diseases with pus and blood. These must be paid attention to. Because of frequent diarrhea, it will recur, and it will also be accompanied by weight loss and fatigue.

Symptoms of colitis

Colitis is also known as nonspecific ulcerative colitis. Its main clinical manifestations are diarrhea, abdominal pain, mucus and bloody stools, tenesmus, and even constipation, inability to defecate for several days; sometimes diarrhea and sometimes constipation, often accompanied by weight loss and fatigue, and often recurring.

What are the main clinical symptoms of colitis?

Most of the cases of this disease have a slow onset, but a few may have an acute onset. The course of the disease is chronic, lasting for several years to more than ten years, often with alternating attacks and remissions or continuous gradual worsening, occasionally with acute outbreaks, clinical manifestations:

(1) Diarrhea: mucus and bloody stools, 3-4 times a day in mild cases, dozens of times a day in severe cases, or alternating diarrhea and constipation.

(2) Abdominal pain: Mild patients have no abdominal pain or only abdominal discomfort. Generally, there is mild to moderate abdominal pain, which is pain in the left lower abdomen or lower abdomen. It may involve the whole abdomen with pain, urge to defecate, and relief after defecation.

(3) Constipation. The patient has a bowel movement once every 4-5 days. The stool is like sheep dung. In some cases, the patient cannot have a bowel movement without taking laxatives.

(4) Other symptoms: abdominal distension, weight loss, fatigue, bowel sounds, insomnia, frequent dreams, fear of cold, etc.

How is colitis diagnosed?

In daily life, colitis is relatively easy to identify. If there are diarrhea, loose stools, abdominal pain, bowel sounds, constipation, mucus in stools, and bloody stools, taking sulfonamides and antibiotics can control the disease at the beginning. After repeated relapses, the effect of these drugs is minimal. You should go to the local hospital to ask a specialist to help diagnose. In 1993, the National Academic Seminar on Chronic Non-infectious Intestinal Diseases formulated 3 trial diagnostic criteria based on my country's situation:

(1) Ulcerative colitis must first exclude colitis with clear etiologies such as bacillary dysentery and amyotrophic colitis.

(2) Typical clinical manifestations such as recurrent diarrhea, abdominal pain, mucus, pus, etc., and at least one of the characteristic changes of colonoscopy "X-ray".

(3) The clinical manifestations are atypical, but there are typical colonoscopy or X-ray manifestations or mucosal biopsy histological manifestations.

Clinical classification of colitis

The clinical classification of colitis is helpful for treatment and prognosis. According to the clinical manifestations and clinical course of the disease, it is divided into the following four types:

(1) Mild type: the most common type, with a slow onset and mild symptoms. It has mild diarrhea, less than 4 times a day, alternating with constipation. The stool contains no or only a small amount of blood and mucus, and has no systemic symptoms. The lesions are mostly limited to the rectum and sigmoid colon, and the blood status is normal.

(2) Moderate type: between mild and severe, with diarrhea more than 4 times a day and mild systemic symptoms.

(3) Severe type: systemic symptoms such as fever, fatigue, weight loss, anemia, more than 6 diarrheal episodes per day, bloody stools or bloody and mucous stools.
