One ear makes a buzzing sound when I lie down

Tinnitus is an experience that many people have had. It is very uncomfortable when it occurs, and you always want to slap your ears with your hands. For some people, tinnitus occurs suddenly, while for others, one ear buzzes when they lie down. No matter which situation is the case, as long as tinnitus occurs, you should consider the occurrence of certain diseases. Ear diseases such as otitis media and congestion of the eardrum are common; neurasthenia is also one of the causes of tinnitus. If it is a disease, you should go to the hospital for examination and treatment as soon as possible.

There are 5 diseases hidden behind tinnitus

1. Ear diseases

Conductive tinnitus can occur when there is foreign matter in the ear, blockage caused by inflammation and swelling, congestion of the eardrum, internal ringing, perforation, fluid accumulation or infection in the middle ear, or otosclerosis. This type of tinnitus is characterized by unilaterality, that is, the tinnitus occurs on the side of the lesion, and the pitch is low and rhythmic, such as "rumbling" or "booming".

2. Neurasthenia

Tinnitus is also clearly related to social environment and psychological factors. Tinnitus may also occur when a person is depressed or anxious. People with neurasthenia often experience tinnitus, which has an irregular pitch and is mostly bilateral, accompanied by symptoms such as headache, dizziness, insomnia, and nightmares.

In addition, when the body is weak, tinnitus may be caused by insufficient vascular tension and poor local blood supply. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that it is a manifestation of kidney deficiency.

3. Neck diseases

Neck swelling and pain or other neck diseases that compress the carotid artery may cause tinnitus on the compressed side. This type of tinnitus is characterized by persistence and low pitch, and the degree of tinnitus may vary with changes in body position.

4. Symptoms of poisoning

Commonly used antibiotics such as gentamicin, streptomycin, kanamycin, etc. are toxic to the auditory nerve and vestibular nerve. Tinnitus may occur in the early stage, which is often high-pitched and bilateral. If the medication is not stopped in time, it may rapidly develop into deafness and be difficult to reverse.

5. Noise damage

Short-term strong noise or long-term repeated noise (such as occupational noise, rock and disco music, high-volume stereo headphones, etc.) can lead to hearing loss accompanied by tinnitus and dizziness. In severe cases, auditory hallucinations and neurasthenia may also occur.

What is the best treatment for tinnitus?

1. Cover your ears with both palms

A commonly used method to treat tinnitus is to cover your ears with the palms of your hands that have been rubbed warm, completely blocking your palms and ears, and then suddenly release your palms. Repeat this 30 times.

2. Massage Hegu acupoint

Massage Hegu point (extend your arm, put your palm down, put your thumb and index finger together, and find the point at the highest point of the muscle) 80 times. Do the above movements once every morning and evening. In addition, massage in time when tinnitus occurs. If you persist for a long time, you will see results, so patients may as well give it a try.

3. Massage Tinghui acupoint

First, use your index finger and thumb to gently massage the Tinghui point (located in the front and lower part of the auricle, flush with the small notch, the depression when your mouth is open) for about 5 minutes, about 350 to 400 times. Beat the Heavenly Drum 50 times. Rub your palms together to warm them up, cover your ears with the palms, and press your ten fingers on the back of your head. Then put your index finger on top of your middle finger and tap the area below your occipital bone so that you can hear it in your ear, similar to the sound of beating a drum.
