Can you eat hairy crabs that have just died?

When we go looking for work, if we go too late, we may catch the seafood being wholesaled, and some hairy crabs are very cheap after they die. However, experts do not recommend people to buy this kind of hairy crabs, because there will be some toxic reactions in the body of the hairy crabs after death, which will pose some physiological threats to our use and may even cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. So, can we eat hairy crabs just after they die?

1. It is best not to eat dead hairy crabs.

Fresh hairy crabs are very delicious and have high nutritional value, but if they are dead hairy crabs, it is a different story. We know that hairy crabs are a food rich in protein. In fact, when they are dying or dead, they become spoiled. Eating them will be harmful to the human body. Therefore, it is not recommended to eat dead hairy crabs.

Even though the hairy crab is just dead, the protein and fat it contains will become nutrients for bacteria, causing a large number of bacteria to grow, and at the same time decompose the protein into cadaverine and histamine. Cadaverine and histamine are toxic and can cause poisoning, and histamine can cause allergies, resulting in numbness of the limbs, skin allergies, general weakness, and even asthma and difficulty breathing.

2. What happens if you eat a freshly dead hairy crab?

1. Poisoning

Chinese hairy crabs are saprophagous and often eat dead animal carcasses. Because the crab body contains some bacteria, pathogens and other substances, when it is dying or dead, the bacteria will quickly decompose the hairy crab's protein, causing the cadaverine and histamine levels to rise rapidly. These are toxic substances, so eating them will cause poisoning or allergies in humans.

2. Diarrhea

After the hairy crab dies, the bacteria in its body quickly invade the inside of the crab. Hairy crabs are rich in protein and fat, and contain rich nutrients. The invading bacteria multiply rapidly, and eating them can easily cause diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, etc.

3. How to eat freshly dead hairy crabs

It is not recommended to eat baby hairy crabs after they die, but if you really want to eat them, this will cause less harm.

1. If you find that the hairy crab has just died, clean it immediately.

2. Sprinkle a layer of white vinegar and salt on the hairy crab.

3. Boil the hairy crabs in cold water and put some ginger slices, green onion segments, etc. in the pot.

4. After boiling over high heat, turn to medium-low heat and cook for another 20 minutes.

5. After cooking, remove the hairy crabs immediately and drain the water.

6. Serve the hairy crabs with ginger vinegar sauce, Huadiao wine, etc.
