Is creatinine 120 serious?

Is creatinine 120 serious?

For patients with abnormal renal function, they need to conduct urine tests regularly and pay attention to their creatinine index. This is because the body's creatinine index is closely related to renal function. When the creatinine index shows abnormal values, it often indicates abnormal renal function in the body. Patients need to eat some foods that help lower the creatinine index or take medication to inhibit the increase in creatinine. So, is it a serious phenomenon when creatinine reaches 120?

High creatinine means that the creatinine value is higher than the normal value. Creatinine includes blood creatinine and urine creatinine, but blood creatinine is a more meaningful measure of renal function. Therefore, high creatinine generally refers to high blood creatinine. The normal value of blood creatinine is measured by different standards in different hospitals. Generally speaking, the normal value of blood creatinine is 44-133μmol/L. When blood creatinine exceeds 133μmol/L, it means that the kidneys are damaged and renal insufficiency or renal failure has occurred. (133μmol/L and above is the inflammatory damage stage, 186μmol/L is the renal function damage stage, and 451μmol/L is the renal failure stage).

Normal creatinine value

Normal creatinine serum creatinine

It is generally believed to be endogenous blood creatinine, which is a product of human muscle metabolism. In muscles, creatine is mainly converted into creatinine through irreversible non-enzymatic dehydration reaction, which is then released into the blood and excreted in the urine. Clinically, testing blood creatinine is one of the main methods commonly used to understand renal function.

The normal value of blood creatinine[2] is: 44-133umol/L. (Values vary by region and hospital)

Normal value of serum creatinine (SCr):

Male: 53~106umol/L;

Female: 44~97umol/L.

Increased blood creatinine: seen in acute or chronic renal insufficiency, acromegaly, gigantism, diabetes, infection, eating meat, exercise, and taking medications (such as vitamin C, levodopa, methyldopa, etc.).

A serum creatinine level higher than normal usually means kidney damage. Serum creatinine can more accurately reflect the extent of renal parenchymal damage, but it is not a sensitive indicator. Because when the kidney's filtration function drops to less than 1/3 of a normal person's, blood creatinine begins to rise. When it drops below 1/2, blood creatinine increases significantly.

Decreased blood creatinine: seen in severe congestive heart failure, anemia, muscular dystrophy, leukemia, vegetarians, and those taking androgens, thiazide drugs, etc.

Normal creatinine urine creatinine

It mainly comes from the blood, is filtered by the glomerulus and excreted from the body with urine, and is basically not absorbed by the renal tubules and is excreted in very small amounts. Measuring urine creatinine concentration alone is rarely helpful in evaluating renal function, but when measured together with serum creatinine, it can serve as an essential indicator of endogenous creatinine clearance.

Normal values for urine creatinine are:

Adult males: 7.1 to 17.7 mmol/24 hours urine.

Adult females: 5.3-15.9 mmol/24-hour urine;

Children: 71-195 μmol/24-hour urine;

Infants, 88-177 μmol/24-hour urine.

Increased urine creatinine: seen in acromegaly, gigantism, diabetes, infection, hypothyroidism, meat consumption, exercise, and medication intake (such as vitamin C, levodopa, methyldopa, etc.).

Decreased urine creatinine: seen in acute or chronic renal insufficiency, severe congestive heart failure, hyperthyroidism, anemia, muscular dystrophy, leukemia, vegetarians, and those taking androgens, thiazide drugs, etc.
