Can artificial tears be used for a long time?

Many people don't know much about artificial tears. It is a substitute made to imitate human tears. In essence, it is a kind of eye drops, which is very effective in moisturizing the eyes. Dry eyes are inevitable in daily life, which has a great impact on eye health and can easily lead to some eye diseases. Especially for people who often overuse their eyes in front of computers, using some artificial tears can have a good relieving effect.

Can artificial tears be used long term?

There is a limit on the number of times artificial tears can be applied to the eye per day. For artificial tears without preservatives, such as Hyaluronic Acid Sodium Eye Drops, it is recommended to apply them up to 10 times a day. Hyaluronic Acid Sodium Eye Drops does not contain preservatives, so it is safe and has no side effects. It can be used for a long time as long as the application does not exceed 10 times a day. There is no time limit for continuous use. As for other artificial tears containing preservatives, it is recommended not to use them more than three times a day and they should not be used for a long time because of the obvious cytotoxicity of preservatives to the human eye.

Contraindications

In order to maintain the sterility of drugs and extend their shelf life, preservatives are generally added to preserve their quality. Although trace amounts of preservatives do not cause much damage to the eyes, repeated use of eye drops and long-term excessive exposure to preservatives may cause harm to the eyes, causing damage to the normal tear film and corneal epithelial cells. Therefore, in principle, eye drops should be used if possible. If they must be used, they should not be used more than 4 times a day.

Computer users do not need to use eye drops regularly as long as they do the following: do not use the computer for too long. After using the computer for 40 to 50 minutes continuously, be sure to let your eyes rest for 10 to 15 minutes and look into the distance to let your eyes fully relax. The total time spent working in front of the computer should not exceed 6 hours a day. People who wear contact lenses do not need to use eye drops all the time as long as they pay attention to personal hygiene and strictly follow the regular operating procedures for wearing and removing lenses. In addition to eye drops, there are other ways to relieve dry eyes: do eye exercises, apply hot compresses with hot towels, and look into the distance more often.
