Can I do moxibustion during the period of fasting

Bigu fasting is a way of health preservation from ancient times, which means not eating for a certain period of time and only drinking water or eating fruits. The period of fasting allows the body to regulate itself and effectively repair its functions, thereby achieving the purpose of excreting toxins. But can I do moxibustion during the fasting period? Moxibustion is also a way of health preservation. It is a way of health preservation during the fasting period, so it is best not to do it. It is best to do it after the fasting period.

It is possible to do moxibustion during the fasting period, but it is not necessary. You should know that the human body is intelligent. During the period of fasting, the body will regulate and repair itself. If you do moxibustion or something, you are artificially disturbing the body's work, which often has a counter-effect, so it is best to keep a calm mind and do nothing!

There are three main types of traditional fasting techniques: fasting with qi, fasting with water (talismans), and fasting with medicine (bait).

Those who practice Qigong fasting believe that the human body can obtain life energy from "qi" and can maintain life activities without taking medicine; those who practice water fasting take (talisman) water and at the same time combine it with health-preserving techniques such as concentrating the mind, moving the qi, holding the fist, swallowing saliva, chanting (equivalent to "witch doctor"), drinking porridge, and taking bait, which has a certain religious color; those who practice medicine (bait) fasting take highly nutritious, difficult-to-digest medicines or foods such as nuts and fasting pills instead of grains to regulate body functions, which is the most important and most commonly used method among the fasting techniques.

Fasting for health does not mean starving yourself

Fasting for health is still popular today, and believers even regard it as a "panacea". As a result, some extreme cases are often reported in newspapers. They may faint due to the imbalance of water metabolism in the body caused by fasting, or refuse all nutrition when they are seriously ill, which makes their condition worse. Modern research has confirmed that fasting can indeed promote the decomposition of body fat, help excrete toxins, purify the blood, protect blood vessels, and enhance the body's immunity to a certain extent. However, some health care institutions or weight loss institutions use this as a gimmick, and under the guise of scientific health care, they induce some people to engage in inappropriate fasting health care, and even go to the mountains and forests to "starve" in the hope of prolonging life, preventing and curing diseases, and losing weight and reducing blood lipids. As a result, their physical condition becomes increasingly weak, and they may even become unconscious, have low blood pressure, or fall into a coma. This practice is extremely undesirable.

As a health-preserving technique for prolonging life, Bigu fasting is not about fasting, nor is it simply starving. Otherwise, it would deviate from the ancient fasting health-preserving principles and instead harm your health. The practice of fasting recorded in ancient books is to avoid or reduce the intake of cereals, meat and other foods. This is actually a health-preserving method to improve the dietary structure.

The correct way to maintain health through fasting

Scientific fasting health-preserving techniques should focus on the combination of meat and vegetables, conform to nature, and follow dietary rules with both do's and don'ts. Generally speaking, when you first start fasting, it is advisable to gradually reduce your food intake and eat some liquid food in between to avoid excessive hunger. If you don’t want to fast after a period of time, you can resume your normal diet. The key to fasting for health is to limit the amount of food you eat, and "complete fasting" is not recommended. People with a strong physique can choose not to eat one day a week, and only drink water and honey, and take multivitamin supplements; people with an average physique can choose to eat less one day a week, and take a small amount of high-protein, high-fat food or medicine to replace daily grains to nourish qi and blood, such as walnuts, almonds, chestnuts, dates, etc. The ancients often used Poria cocos, Polygonatum sibiricum, Asparagus cochinchinensis, Atractylodes macrocephala, ginseng, honey, etc. to make pills or pastes to replace daily diet; those with weaker constitutions are best to maintain health by changing their diet structure rather than reducing their food intake.
