Warning: ear stuffiness may be an early symptom of nasopharyngeal cancer

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma refers to a malignant tumor that occurs in the nasopharyngeal mucosa. Most people who develop the disease are middle-aged, but some are also teenagers. The cause of the disease is related to racial susceptibility, genetic factors, and Epstein-Barr virus infection. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is highly malignant and can metastasize to cervical lymph nodes in the early stages. Many people often have symptoms of stuffy ears, which is suspected to be an early symptom of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. So is stuffy ears an early symptom of nasopharyngeal carcinoma?

Is ear stuffiness an early symptom of nasopharyngeal cancer? Although the early symptoms of nasopharyngeal cancer are not obvious, they are numerous and can easily be confused with other diseases of the ENT system, leading to errors in diagnosis and treatment. Both patients and doctors should pay attention to this. Early symptoms of nasopharyngeal cancer include nose bleeding, stubborn otitis media, headache, swollen cervical lymph nodes, and ear stuffiness.

Due to the hidden site of disease, the early symptoms of nasopharyngeal carcinoma are very mild and often do not attract people's attention. However, some early manifestations still have certain reference value.

Generally speaking, the early symptoms of nasopharyngeal carcinoma are as follows, which can be discovered by yourself:

1. Nosebleed: Except for a few cases of bloody nasal discharge, there are basically no subjective symptoms. Especially in the morning, when the nose is bleeding, you should be more vigilant;

2. Headache: It manifests as unilateral intractable headache accompanied by diplopia and facial nerve paralysis. The pain is difficult to relieve with drugs. It is often caused by tumor invasion into the brain or metastatic lymph nodes compressing the cranial nerves.

3. Refractory otitis media: manifested by one-sided ear canal discharge, tinnitus, hearing loss, and tympanic effusion. Such patients should have their nasopharyngeal area checked regularly for early detection;

4. Swollen lymph nodes in the neck: According to statistics, among the early symptoms of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, the incidence of swollen lymph nodes in the neck is relatively high. The specific location is a painless, hard, fixed lump below the mastoid muscle on the upper side of the neck, which grows relatively rapidly.

Anyone who has the above symptoms for more than two weeks is a highly suspicious patient and should go to the hospital immediately for relevant examinations in order to obtain an early diagnosis.

If there is a feeling of stuffiness in the ear, it is also one of the most common first symptoms of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Especially those with unilateral ear stuffiness should be more alert. The feeling of stuffiness in the ear is a common clinical symptom, which is mostly caused by diseases such as otitis media, earwax embolism, rhinitis, nasopharyngitis, etc.

Early symptoms of nasopharyngeal carcinoma may include stuffy ears, but patients generally do not pay much attention to it. This is because nasopharyngeal carcinoma is highly malignant, has early lymph node metastasis, and is hidden in its location. Local symptoms such as bloody nasal discharge and stuffy nose appear later. More than half of the cases only show extranasal symptoms in the early stage, and stuffy ears are not easy to detect. Therefore, the early missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis rate of nasopharyngeal carcinoma is high.

The above are the early symptoms of nasopharyngeal cancer. Experts suggest: when the above symptoms appear in the body, you must go to the hospital for examination and treatment in time, and ask the doctor to develop a treatment plan suitable for you according to your condition, and actively cooperate with the doctor's treatment to ensure good health and a healthy and happy life!
