What factors are likely to cause hepatocellular carcinoma

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a malignant tumor of liver cells and one of the most common malignant tumors in the world. The incidence rate varies greatly around the world. High-incidence areas include China, North Korea, Southeast Asia and most of sub-Saharan Africa, with an annual incidence rate of up to 120/100,000, followed by Japan and some southern European countries (especially Italy and Spain) and the Middle East. Low-incidence areas include some northern European countries, the United States and South America, with an annual incidence rate as low as 5/100,000.

In high-incidence areas, the age of diagnosis is between 40 and 50 years old, while in other areas the age is higher. Hepatocellular carcinoma occurs more often in men than in women.

Known risk factors for hepatocellular carcinoma:

Cirrhosis of the liver due to any cause;

Chronic hepatitis B;

Chronic hepatitis C with cirrhosis;

In addition, excessive drinking, smoking, and synthetic or estrogenic steroids are all risk factors for hepatocellular carcinoma.

In high-incidence areas, chronic hepatitis B virus infection is the most common cause, while in general incidence areas the main cause is chronic hepatitis C virus infection.

In order to prevent the disease from developing into hepatocellular carcinoma, some liver diseases should be actively treated in the early stages so that the condition can be controlled in the early stages.
