If you have lung cancer, you can't just check your chest X-ray!

In recent years, lung cancer has become a major disease that endangers human life. It has brought great pain and distress to humans. Do you know the symptoms of lung cancer? Experts say that due to the different locations and ranges of the lesions, the symptoms of lung cancer vary. Experts remind that the diagnosis of lung cancer cannot be confirmed by chest X-ray alone.

Chest X-ray reveals problems that require further comprehensive examination

"Some patients have problems with their chest X-rays, or have suspicious symptoms but no problems are found in the chest X-rays. They refuse to undergo further examinations such as CT, fiber bronchoscopy, and percutaneous lung puncture biopsy, which makes diagnosis difficult." Experts say that chest X-rays can only be used for preliminary examinations of lung cancer and can never be used as a basis for diagnosing lung cancer.

Experts say that chest X-ray is the most basic imaging examination method for lung cancer, and most lung cancers can be initially diagnosed through chest X-ray. However, on an AP chest X-ray, about 43% of the lung area overlaps with the heart, mediastinum, diaphragm and other tissues, making some early lung cancers difficult to detect. Chest X-rays also lack density contrast, and the detection rate of mediastinal lymph node metastases of lung cancer is low. In addition, even if a tumor is found on a chest X-ray, its exact location, nature and stage cannot be determined.

CT can be used to diagnose by displaying three-dimensional images of thin cross-sections of tissues, effectively avoiding the overlap of the lungs with the heart, mediastinum, diaphragm and other tissues. It can detect early lung cancer that is difficult to detect with chest X-rays, such as the apex of the lung, beside the spine, near the pleura, behind the heart, mediastinum, diaphragm and other parts. CT also has a higher density resolution and can detect mediastinal lymph node metastases of lung cancer. CT is significantly better than chest X-rays in diagnosing early lung cancer.

Fiberoptic bronchoscopy is one of the most important examination items for lung cancer. It can directly observe the vocal cords, trachea, bronchi, etc., and can see the tumor and perform biopsy. The vast majority of central lung cancers that grow in the center of the lung can be examined by fiberoptic bronchoscopy to determine the specific location, nature, and stage of the tumor, which is of great significance for determining a reasonable treatment plan and radiotherapy target area. Percutaneous lung puncture biopsy is an effective means to clearly diagnose peripheral lung cancers that grow in smaller bronchi and are difficult to reach with fiberoptic bronchoscopes.

Experts believe that if a problem is found in the chest X-ray, further CT examination is required. For some patients, CT can confirm the diagnosis. If CT cannot confirm the diagnosis, and there is a suspicious mass in the center of the lung, a fiberoptic bronchoscopy should be performed; if there is a suspicious mass in the periphery of the lung, a percutaneous lung puncture biopsy should be performed. If no problem is found in the chest X-ray, but there are suspected symptoms of lung cancer such as irritating dry cough, blood in sputum, enlarged male breasts, and clubbing fingers, further comprehensive examination should also be performed.

The above is the answer to the question "Why can't you just check your chest X-ray when you have lung cancer?" Expert Tips: If you have symptoms of illness, you can choose the appropriate treatment according to your symptoms, but don't delay the diagnosis, and don't let your life be ruined by hesitation. You should go to a regular hospital for treatment in time to avoid delaying the disease and causing serious consequences.
