What are the treatments for skin cancer?

Skin cancer refers to a malignant tumor that occurs on the epidermis of the skin. Skin cancer often occurs on exposed parts of the body, such as the head, face, neck, back of the hands, etc., accounting for 81.1%. Skin cancer is divided into basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. The former often occurs around the eyes, nose, nasolabial grooves and cheeks, while the latter often occurs in the temples, eyelids, ears, scalp, lips, etc. So what are the treatments for skin cancer? Let's listen to the experts' introduction below.

There are several main treatments for skin cancer:

Surgical treatment : Surgical treatment is the first choice for skin cancer treatment. Appropriate surgical excision treatment should be performed. During excision, skin incisions should be made 0.5 to 2 cm apart from the tumor, and sufficient depth should be required to perform as extensive excision as possible. The excision of squamous cell carcinoma of the scalp, trunk, hands and feet should be appropriately increased to 2 to 5 cm. For patients with confirmed regional lymph node metastasis, lymph node dissection should be performed, but preventive dissection is not necessary. When bones, major blood vessels, and nerves are involved, amputation is required. Electrosurgical excision is better than simple surgical excision because drying is beneficial to open wounds. Chemical surgery has better results, but it is time-consuming and costly. For patients with a larger excision range, skin grafting should be performed.

Radiotherapy : Skin cancer is superficial, with clear borders, and precise irradiation positioning under direct vision. Generally, squamous cell carcinoma is moderately sensitive to radiation, while basal cell carcinoma is particularly sensitive to radiation, and the skin has a high tolerance. Therefore, lesions occurring in exposed areas are prone to scar formation after surgical excision, affecting beauty and function. Radiotherapy can be used for the elderly and the weak, and for those with surgical contraindications (diabetes, kidney, heart disease, etc.). However, radiotherapy is not suitable for lesions on scar tissue (burn scars), previous radiotherapy areas, poor blood supply, and tumors involving bones and cartilage, such as the scalp, fingers, nose, and ears. The preferred radiation source is electron beams, followed by contact X-rays and shallow X-rays. The edge of the irradiation field should exceed the tumor by 0.5 to 1 cm. If the tumor boundary is unclear, the edge should be expanded by 3 to 4 cm. Vertical, tangential, and multi-field irradiation are used according to the size of the lesion. The general tumor dose is 60-70 GY/6-8 weeks. The dose required for basal cell carcinoma is slightly smaller. During treatment, the radiation field and dose should be adjusted according to the tumor shrinkage. If the tumor diameter is less than 1 cm, X-ray contact treatment can be used, with a total of 60-70 GY, 20-30 GY each time, 3 days apart, for a total of 2-3 times. Attention should be paid to protecting the surrounding tissues.

Chemotherapy : Skin cancer has a good effect,

Drug treatment : Traditional Chinese medicine is the main means of treating tumors. After a large number of clinical experiments by experts from various fields, a large number of new tumor drugs with national drug approval have been successfully developed and achieved good therapeutic effects.
