Nursing methods during chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer

Nursing methods during chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer

Chemotherapy is one of the effective treatments for pancreatic cancer. Since drugs during chemotherapy can produce a series of side effects on the body, it is necessary to provide good care during chemotherapy.

Encourage patients to cooperate with treatment

As family members, we should communicate more with patients, learn more about their condition and psychological state, let patients know about chemotherapy, eliminate fear, and cooperate with treatment with a positive attitude. In addition, during intravenous injection of drugs and after needle removal, local hot compress is prohibited to prevent drug extravasation and local tissue necrosis. For elderly patients with poor vascular elasticity, the needle eye should be closed more slowly, and the compression time should be longer after the needle is removed to reduce the chance of drug extravasation. Once it is found that the drug has leaked out of the blood vessel, or pain or burning sensation occurs, medical staff should be asked to deal with it immediately.

Maintaining oral hygiene for patients

Radiotherapy drugs can cause oral ulcers in patients. If the bacterial content in the mouth is high, the severity will increase. Therefore, you should develop the habit of brushing your teeth in the morning and evening and rinsing your mouth after meals. Choose a soft toothbrush, do not use toothpicks to pick your teeth, and do not eat hot, rough, prickly or irritating foods to avoid damaging your oral cavity.

Take good care of your diet

Due to the toxic side effects of chemotherapy drugs, patients often lose their appetite and should be given a light, less greasy, easily digestible diet. During the intervals between chemotherapy, attention should be paid to supplementing high-calorie, high-vitamin, high-protein, low-fat foods to ensure nutritional needs. Patients are encouraged to drink more water and soup to accelerate the excretion of toxins in the body, and avoid spicy and fried foods and raw, cold and hard foods.
