How to deal with pancreatic cancer after surgery

Surgery is the main way to treat pancreatic cancer, but it does not mean that you can sit back and relax after surgery. Postoperative care is crucial for pancreatic cancer patients. The care content includes the following three aspects:

1. Application of antibiotics

After pancreatic cancer surgery, there will be wounds or sutures left on the pancreas and body, so antibiotics should continue to be used to prevent bacteria, fungi, mycoplasma, chlamydia and other pathogenic microorganisms from invading the body and achieve the purpose of preventing infection. However, antibiotics can also produce many adverse reactions, so they should be used with caution and strictly follow the doctor's advice.

2. Management of drainage tubes

For patients undergoing pancreatic and duodenectomy, the amount and properties of exudate in the abdominal drainage tube and drainage strip should be closely observed, and complications such as postoperative bile fistula, pancreatic fistula, and intraperitoneal bleeding should be guarded against; for patients undergoing pancreatic body and pancreatic tail resection, attention should be paid to whether there is clear, colorless watery pancreatic fluid exudation in the drainage tube placed at the pancreatic section. If pancreatic fistula is suspected, the drainage tube should be immediately connected to continuous negative pressure suction, and zinc oxide ointment should be applied to protect the skin around the drainage tube opening.

3. Reasonable nutritional support

After the operation, you should understand the patient's preferred diet and habits, follow the nutritionist's advice, and develop a menu; record the patient's food intake every day, observe the digestion after eating, and give digestive aids according to the doctor's orders; for patients with intake disorders, arrange fluid replacement and supplement nutrients according to the doctor's orders to correct water, electrolyte, and acid-base imbalances.
