6 health care measures after bladder cancer surgery

Surgery is the main method for treating bladder cancer. After bladder preservation surgery, intravesical chemotherapy should generally be performed. After total cystectomy and ileal bladder surgery, patients should be placed in a permanent urine collector. After total cystectomy and in situ ileal bladder surgery, levator anus training should be performed. After surgery, good living habits should be maintained, regular check-ups should be performed, and if any abnormalities are found, timely medical treatment should be sought.

1. Intravesical chemotherapy after bladder preservation surgery

Patients who undergo bladder preservation surgery should receive intravesical chemotherapy after surgery to prevent recurrence.

2. Placement of urine collector after total cystectomy or ileal bladder surgery

Patients who have undergone total cystectomy or ileal bladder surgery need to permanently place a urine collector and change the urine bag once every 1 to 2 days.

3. Postoperative pelvic floor training after total cystectomy and ileal bladder replacement

Patients who have undergone total cystectomy and in situ ileal bladder replacement should do levator ani muscle training to exercise the perineal muscles. They should first urinate in a sitting position to relax the pelvic floor muscles and increase abdominal pressure, and then gradually change to standing urination and gradually extend the urination interval.

4. Maintain good living habits after surgery

Patients who have undergone bladder cancer surgery should quit smoking, develop the habit of drinking plenty of water, 2 to 3 liters of water per day, and eat more salt appropriately.

5. Regular follow-up after discharge

Cystoscopy should be performed every three months. If there is no recurrence within two years, the frequency should be changed to once every six months. After five years, the frequency should be changed to once a year. In addition, urine exfoliated cell examination, B-ultrasound, excretory urography, CT and other examinations should be performed according to the condition.

6. Check any abnormality at any time

Pay attention to your urination at all times. If you experience any abnormalities such as hematuria, difficulty defecating, back pain, or lower abdominal pain, you should check at any time.
