Prevention measures for side effects of commonly used bone cancer drugs

Prevention measures for side effects of commonly used bone cancer drugs

Chemotherapy is one of the important methods for treating bone cancer. However, while chemotherapy drugs kill tumor cells, they also kill normal cells and immune cells, causing side effects on the body. Therefore, preventive measures should be taken in time when using chemotherapy drugs to reduce the harm of chemotherapy drugs to the body.

1. High-dose methotrexate can produce a series of toxic effects such as bone marrow suppression, liver and kidney dysfunction, etc. Calcium methyltetrahydrofolate can be used to rescue after high-dose MTX, prevent toxic reactions, and protect normal cells.

2. The most prominent side effect of ifosfamide is hemorrhagic cystitis, so the urinary tract protective agent mesna must be given at the same time to prevent the occurrence of hemorrhagic cystitis.

3. Cisplatin may cause gastrointestinal reactions, nephrotoxicity, bone marrow transplantation, allergic reactions, neurotoxicity, and ototoxicity. During high-dose chemotherapy, hydration and diuresis should be used to reduce nephrotoxicity, and changes in serum electrolytes and liver and kidney function should be closely monitored.

4. Doxorubicin can cause cardiotoxicity and has a cumulative dose phenomenon. The total dose should be controlled when using doxorubicin. If necessary, new drugs should be added in combination with chemotherapy to reduce the cumulative dose of doxorubicin.

Tips: Hydration therapy with platinum drugs

Platinum drugs are the most basic chemotherapy drugs in oncology. Some of them are highly nephrotoxic and require large amounts of hydration and diuresis to increase urine volume, speed up drug excretion, and reduce drug accumulation in the renal tubules, thereby reducing nephrotoxicity.
