How to care for nasopharyngeal carcinoma during recovery period

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma requires a long recovery process after treatment. During this period, attention should be paid to nursing. Good nursing is conducive to recovery. Special attention should be paid to the following issues in nasopharyngeal carcinoma nursing:

1. Protect the skin in the radiation area: The skin area receiving radiation therapy is prohibited from scratching, scrubbing with soap or other irritating liquids, and exposure to the sun. Patients are advised to wear loose cotton clothes. The lines of the radiation area should be clearly drawn, and ask the doctor to help add them if necessary.

2. Pay attention to prevent colds, pharyngitis, and otitis media. Do not extract teeth, dentures, or fill teeth within 3 years after radiotherapy. If the nose, ears, eyes, or mouth are infected, they should be treated in time, such as using antibiotics or washing with special solutions.

3. Because the lesion is located in the posterior and upper part of the nasal cavity, the tumor will block the nostrils and the patient will have to breathe through his mouth. Therefore, the moisture in the mouth evaporates quickly, and the patient will have dry mouth and chapped lips. Saliva will also decrease after radiotherapy. During nursing, the patient should be given more water, or put black plums, American ginseng slices and vitamin C in his mouth to promote salivation.

4. Be mentally prepared and be prepared to fight the disease for a long time. Reduce fear and tension, undergo follow-up examinations as ordered by the doctor, and cooperate with treatment.

5. Pay attention to developing good living habits, quit smoking and drinking, do not eat too cold, too hard or too hot food, and eat more high-protein and high-vitamin foods.

6. Pay attention to functional exercises, and regularly do exercises such as neck rotation, teeth tapping, cheek puffing, smiling, and mouth opening.

7. Pay attention to maintaining a clean living environment, and keep the indoor air clean and dry. Avoid irritation of the head and neck from the sun and cold wind.
