Smoking is a risk factor for pancreatic cancer

There are many factors that induce pancreatic cancer, and most of them are the result of long-term action of multiple factors. Among them, smoking is the main environmental factor that induces pancreatic cancer.

Smoking is probably a bad habit that many people have. Even many women have become a large group of smokers for various reasons. However, the chemicals released after tobacco burning are the main external factors that induce pancreatic cancer. This is because the compounds in tobacco enter the human body through breathing, are transported to the pancreas with body fluids, and undergo biological metabolism in the pancreas, thereby causing adverse stimulation to the pancreas.

The main components of tobacco that cause pancreatic cancer are aromatic amines, nitrosamines, nitrites and nicotine, which can attack the genetic material in pancreatic cells, causing some genes to be incorrectly expressed at inappropriate times and locations. Long-term smoking will make these attacks continue and accumulate, eventually causing these gene expressions to develop into pancreatic cancer.

According to statistics, smokers' risk of developing pancreatic cancer is about three times higher than that of non-smokers. The more they smoke and the longer they smoke, the greater the probability of developing pancreatic cancer. It takes 10 years of quitting smoking to reduce the risk to normal levels.
