TCM's understanding of brain tumors

Modern medical research believes that brain tumors refer to tumors that grow in the cranial cavity of the brain. So, what does traditional Chinese medicine know about brain tumors?

concept

Brain tumors have different names in traditional Chinese medicine. Because the clinical symptoms are relatively complex, they are classified into the categories of "headache", "vomiting", "blindness", "epilepsy", "vertigo", etc. in traditional Chinese medicine. They are also classified as "syndrome" or "rock" (cancer).

Causes and symptoms

Although there is no name for brain tumor in traditional medicine, the symptoms and causes of brain tumor have been discussed in Huangdi Neijing as early as in Suwen·Qibinglun, which also describes: "Marrow is dominated by the brain, and the brain is reversed, so it causes headaches." Lingshu·Jiuzhen said: "The four seasons and eight winds are guests in the meridians, which is a tumor disease." In the Song Dynasty, Shengji Zonglu clearly pointed out: "The meaning of tumor is stagnation. It is stagnation and obstruction, so it takes advantage of the opportunity. The reason why tumors are born is that they are small nuclei at first, and then they grow bigger."

TCM's understanding of brain tumor symptoms, such as the "Zhongzang Jing" says: "If the head and eyes hurt for a long time and the vision is blurred, then the patient will die." This may be the specific symptom of brain tumor patients who first have headaches, then blindness, and then die without treatment. The description of "deprivation of vitality" in "Zhang's Medical Manual" is: "At the beginning, the symptoms are very slight, but they become swollen, hard and painful, with extremely complex roots and knots, and have the same origin as breast cancer but different schools." It is also a description of the gradual swelling of the tumor and the occurrence of compression symptoms.

treat

In the treatment of brain tumors by traditional Chinese medicine, the main principle of traditional Chinese medicine for brain tumors is to strengthen the body and eliminate tumors, and relieve symptoms. If there is a good improvement in the shrinkage of the brain tumor, the doctor can use traditional Chinese medicine to assist the patient's recovery after the brain tumor is surgically removed.
