What are the causes of occupational skin cancer

The incidence of skin cancer is relatively low in my country, but in southern Australia, the incidence is 100 times higher than in my country. It is one of the most common malignant tumors among white people. According to statistics, 40% to 50% of white people who can live to 65 years old have suffered from skin cancer at least once. So, what are the causes of occupational skin cancer?

1. Long-term exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and their metabolites can induce skin cancer. Benzopyrene is a product of the metabolism of all carbon-containing substances. It is converted into epoxides, or hydrocarbonizing agents, in the body through a series of actions such as cyclooxygenase and microsomal hydroxylase. It binds to nucleic acids, interferes with genetic information, and causes abnormal base pairs to be generated during transcription or prevents complete dissociation, leading to cancer.

2. Ionizing radiation causes cancer. The formation of tumors may depend on the irreversible damage of ionizing radiation to the opening of hair follicles.

3. Photochemical carcinogenesis. Photochemical substances can also stimulate the carcinogenic effect of ultraviolet rays. UV irradiation can cause the formation of thymine dimers in DNA, causing changes in the structure and function of the double helix of DNA and inducing cell mutations.

4. Traumatic carcinogenesis. From trauma to the appearance of tumors, persistent signs such as ulcers and scars may occur. These are non-metastatic tumors that are histologically located at the site of trauma.
