Don't mistake skin cancer for warts

Mr. Li, who is over 70 years old, has a protruding wart on his nose, which has been there for several years. Recently, the wart was rubbed by the frame of his glasses, so Mr. Li came to the hospital for treatment. After a careful examination by the doctor, it was discovered that the "wart" the size of Mr. Li's fingernail was actually basal cell carcinoma of the skin.

According to Mr. Li, the "wart" on his nose was dark brown in color and protruded from the surface of the skin. At first it was only the size of a sesame seed, but later it grew larger and larger, and gradually broke due to the friction of the glasses frame, so he came to the hospital for examination.

Later, the doctor told Mr. Li that warts are small yellow-brown bumps that do not hurt or itch. Basal cell carcinoma is a common malignant skin tumor, which is more common in middle-aged and elderly people over 40 years old, especially in the nose, followed by the cheeks. Excessive sun exposure, contact with chemical carcinogens, and long-term exposure to radiation and mechanical damage may lead to the occurrence of basal cell carcinoma. However, because basal cell carcinoma is painless and itchy when it occurs, and its appearance is very similar to warts and warts, it is often misdiagnosed. Because the tumor will gradually grow and invade the surrounding tissues, if it is delayed for too long, it may lead to an increase in the area of resection, affecting the beauty of the face.

Therefore, the elderly should pay attention to nodules and plaques protruding from the skin surface, observe them regularly, and go to a regular hospital for medical treatment in time if they find a trend of enlargement. Never leave them alone to avoid serious consequences.
