Imaging findings of early gastric cancer

Gastric cancer often occurs in the cardia. Use barium meal multi-axis fluoroscopy to carefully observe the mucosal folds and local dilation of the cardia. At the same time, pay attention to the gastric fundus. Double contrast can be used, and observation can be performed in the supine or prone position, and a set of left and right oblique site films can be taken.

X-ray manifestations of early-stage cardiac cancer: (1) The mucosal folds in the cardiac area lose their normal appearance, and the mucosa thickens, becomes interrupted, and even disappears. (2) Small niches: In the thickened and interrupted mucosal folds, small niches appear, the size of which is as big as soybeans. (3) Small filling defects: This is mainly due to the formation of small polyp-like changes in the tumor and protrusion outside the mucosa, forming a small filling defect. (4) Spasmodic stenosis at the end of the cardiac area: In the early stage of cardiac cancer, most of them show different degrees of manifestations, which are mainly caused by spasm. After swallowing a large mouthful of thick barium, the end of the cardiac area can still expand, the barium passes well, and there is no obvious thickening or soft tissue mass in the fundus of the stomach. (5) Jet sign: Some cardiac cancers may show jet sign. Based on the X-ray manifestations, a preliminary diagnosis of early-stage cardiac cancer can be made.
