How to correctly understand the various reactions after cervical spondylosis surgery

The following reactions usually occur during the recovery process of surgical treatment of cervical spondylosis: ① Immediate reaction. During or within a few days after the operation, the patient feels that the limbs are relaxed, indicating that the blood circulation of the spinal cord has recovered and the spinal cord degeneration is not serious. ② Short-term reaction. 4 to 5 days after the operation, during the smooth recovery process, the neurological symptoms suddenly worsen again, indicating that the spinal cord degeneration is more serious. Although the blood circulation of the spinal cord is temporarily improved after the decompression of the operation, due to the occurrence of "edema after spinal cord decompression", dehydration drugs are used to eliminate edema, and the neurological symptoms recover rapidly. When the recovery is slow, on the one hand, it indicates that the spinal cord has undergone varying degrees of fibrosis, and on the other hand, it indicates that the effect will not be good. ③ Slow reaction. The symptoms gradually improve after the operation, with 3 to 6 months as the boundary, and the improvement rate of the symptoms gradually slows down, and even remains unchanged for a long time, which indicates that the spinal cord has undergone more obvious degeneration. ④ No reaction or deterioration. There is a slight improvement or no obvious improvement after the operation, or even worsening. For those who have remained unchanged for more than 6 months after the operation, it can be confirmed that the spinal cord degeneration has become irreversible.
