Is cervical cancer a sexually transmitted disease?

Sexually transmitted diseases refer to diseases that are transmitted by sexual intercourse or similar sexual intercourse. This name was decided by the World Health Organization in 1975. According to the above definition, the scope of sexually transmitted diseases has been greatly expanded. The old medical term "sexually transmitted diseases" mainly refers to syphilis, gonorrhea, chancroid and granuloma venereum; in addition to the above four types, sexually transmitted diseases also include non-lindane urethritis, genital herpes, vulvovaginal candidiasis, vaginal trichomoniasis, molluscum contagiosum, scabies, hepatitis B, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (i.e. AIDS), etc.

Since hepatitis B is a sexually transmitted disease based on the transmission route, cervical cancer can also be considered a sexually transmitted disease for the following reasons:

First, early marriage, early sexual intercourse, multiple marriages, and disordered sexual life are associated with a high incidence of cervical cancer.

Second, women who use condoms for contraception rarely develop cervical cancer.

Third, the incidence of cervical cancer is low among women in ethnic and religious groups where there is a custom of circumcising male babies at birth and where monogamy is encouraged.

Fourth, if the husband has a promiscuous sex life and often has affairs with other women, his wife is more likely to get cervical cancer.

Although the true cause of cervical cancer has not yet been determined, there are so many "sexual" or "sex-related" factors that it is not unreasonable to consider cervical cancer to be a sexually transmitted disease. However, the incubation period of cervical cancer is particularly long (about 10 to 20 years), unlike other sexually transmitted diseases, which develop quickly after infection, so it is difficult to draw a conclusion.
