Are there any side effects of interventional treatment for pancreatic cancer?

In addition to surgical treatment, interventional treatment of pancreatic cancer is also relatively common. Interventional treatment achieves therapeutic effects by using chemotherapy drugs to act on local lesions. It has fewer side effects than ordinary chemotherapy, and the pain relief period is shorter. Some cases can also strive for a second-stage surgery. However, interventional treatment still has certain side effects.

Since interventional therapy uses chemotherapy drugs similar to those used in systemic chemotherapy, many possible toxic and side effects are common, such as nausea, vomiting, decreased blood levels, bone marrow suppression, etc.

The side effects that are particularly relevant to interventional therapy are mainly caused by embolism, because embolism is not something that other treatments can do. The side effects related to embolism are post-embolization syndrome, which mainly includes nausea, vomiting, fever, and pain.

In fact, nausea and vomiting are also related, but studies have shown that after embolization, the patient's nausea and vomiting may be aggravated. Fever and pain are because the tumor has abundant blood supply arteries. After the injection of embolic agents, the tumor blood supply arteries will be occluded, causing acute ischemia of the tumor and acute ischemia after embolization, which causes pain and fever in the patient. Generally, this situation will last for three to five days, which is a special side effect of interventional treatment.

Are the side effects of interventional treatment serious? Generally, don't worry too much. Most patients can tolerate it. The fever is usually around 38 degrees. A small number of patients will have a high fever, but most patients have a fever between 38 and 39 degrees. After general treatment, the patient will recover quickly.
