Progestin treatment of gastric cancer-related pathology

Progestin treatment of gastric cancer-related pathology

Today we are going to talk about progesterone treatment of gastric cancer. We all know that estrogen is one of the protective factors for gastric adenocarcinoma. Estrogen and progesterone receptors are expressed at low levels in gastric cancer, which can help diagnose in situ or metastatic tumor tissues of different origins, and are correlated with related factors such as prothymosin and tissue-type plasminogen activator (tPA), but most studies have not found that expression is related to prognostic factors such as pathological type.

Progesterone is secreted by the luteal cells of the ovaries, mainly progesterone. After being inactivated into estradiol in the liver, it combines with glucuronic acid and is excreted from the body through urine. Progesterone often produces effects based on the action of estrogen.

The main physiological functions are:

(1) Inhibit ovulation, promote endometrial secretion to facilitate the implantation of the fertilized egg, and reduce the excitability of the uterine muscles to ensure the safety of pregnancy.

(2) Promote the growth of mammary alveoli to prepare for lactation.

(3) Raise body temperature and relax blood vessels and digestive tract smooth muscles.

(4) Since progesterone is an important intermediate in the biosynthesis of androgens, estrogens, adrenal cortex hormones, etc., it has the effects of the above hormones to varying degrees. Some artificially synthesized estrogens and progesterone and their analogs are mainly used in clinical practice for infertility, threatened abortion and habitual abortion, endometriosis, functional uterine bleeding, amenorrhea, menopausal syndrome, osteoporosis, etc., and can be used to increase white blood cells in endometrial cancer, prostate cancer and cancer chemotherapy.
