What is the preferred screening method for colon cancer

Although colon cancer is a disease that people often hear about in their daily lives, people do not have a comprehensive understanding of colon cancer, and their understanding of colon cancer is not enough. People should pay attention to the symptoms of colon cancer so that they can receive timely treatment. What is the preferred examination method for colon cancer? Let's take a look at the experts' explanation.

Four ways to detect colon cancer

1. X-ray examination

This type of colon cancer examination includes a full digestive tract barium meal examination and a barium enema examination. It can observe the overall shape of the colon, whether there are multiple polyps and multiple cancer foci, and provide a basis for surgical treatment of patients with colon cancer. The initial signs of the disease may be intestinal wall stiffness and mucosal destruction, followed by constant filling defects and intestinal stenosis. The double contrast examination of air-barium is more effective.

2. Endoscopic examination

For patients with blood in stool or change in bowel habits, but no abnormalities found in rectal examination, colon cancer should be checked by fiber colonoscopy. It can not only detect various types of colon lesions, but also take tissue biopsy to confirm the diagnosis and avoid missed diagnosis or misdiagnosis.

3. Serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) test

It is not specific for the detection and diagnosis of colon cancer. When the value increases, it is often related to the tumor growth. It can return to normal after complete removal of the colon tumor. It can increase a few weeks before recurrence. Therefore, it is helpful for estimating prognosis, monitoring efficacy and recurrence, and is of great significance for the examination of colon cancer. This is one of the examination methods for colon cancer.

4. B-ultrasound scan, CT or MRI examination

Neither can directly diagnose colon cancer, but it is valuable for determining the location, size, relationship with surrounding tissues, lymph node and liver metastasis of the tumor. This type of colon cancer examination is mainly used to understand the degree of tumor infiltration into the intestinal tract and whether there is local lymph node or distant organ metastasis. It can be used for preoperative staging and postoperative review.
