What are the drugs used in clinical chemotherapy for colorectal cancer

In 2008, there were approximately 1.2 million new cases of colorectal cancer worldwide, accounting for approximately 10% of all new cancers, and the number of related deaths exceeded 600,000. Colorectal cancer is very common in economically developed countries and regions such as North America, Western Europe, and Australia, with a crude incidence rate of 40/100,000-66/100,000, accounting for more than two-thirds of all new cases. In rapidly economically rising developing countries such as China, the incidence of colorectal cancer is also showing a rapid upward trend year by year. What are the clinical chemotherapy drugs for colorectal cancer?

Although colorectal cancer still places a heavy burden on people's health and society, great progress has been made in its treatment in the past two decades, with the 5-year survival rate increasing from 50% to 63%, and the quality of life of patients also significantly improved. The above achievements are largely attributed to the breakthrough progress made in colorectal cancer drug treatment and reasonable and standardized drug use.
Since the 1950s, fluorouracil (5-FU) has been widely used in clinical practice as a basic chemotherapy drug for the treatment of colorectal cancer. In the mid-to-late 1990s, new highly effective chemotherapy drugs such as oxaliplatin, irinotecan, capecitabine, and molecular targeted drugs cetuximab and bevacizumab were developed and marketed, making great progress in the drug treatment of colorectal cancer. This article summarizes the mechanism of action, treatment regimen, dosage and related clinical research of drugs used in the treatment of colorectal cancer, namely fluorouracil, capecitabine, oxaliplatin, irinotecan, cetuximab and bevacizumab, to provide guidance and reference for the standardized use of drugs for colorectal cancer.
