The impact of colorectal cancer on fertility

The impact of colorectal cancer on fertility

Once a malignant tumor such as colorectal cancer occurs, it will seriously affect the patient's health. For colorectal cancer, we must pay attention to scientific treatment and care, so that the disease can be relieved and cured earlier. The following editor will talk about whether patients with colorectal cancer can get pregnant?

Can patients with colorectal cancer get pregnant?

Most young women with colorectal cancer want to be mothers, but they should not get pregnant before they are cured. Pregnancy will affect the nutrition and physical strength of the patient. If the patient still needs intermittent maintenance treatment, chemotherapy drugs will have cytotoxic effects on the fetus, causing fetal malformation, miscarriage, and premature birth.

If it has been more than 5 years since the colorectal cancer surgery, and no recurrence or metastasis has been found through various examinations, and the patient has a strong desire to have children, whether or not to get pregnant should be decided by oncology and gynecology experts after consultation. If it does not affect the patient's health and the patient is able to have children, then pregnancy can be considered. However, it is generally better not to get pregnant, so as to avoid disrupting the balance of the endocrine system in the body and disturbing the patient's health.

Who is prone to colorectal cancer?

1. The occurrence of colorectal cancer is closely related to the region. This is because different regions have different eating habits, which leads to different incidence rates of colorectal cancer. North America, Europe and Australia have high incidence rates, while Japan has low incidence rates. In my country, the incidence rate of colorectal cancer is relatively high in the areas south of the Yangtze River.

2. Family factors play a more obvious role among colorectal cancer patients. The chance of family members of colorectal cancer patients being infected is more than three times higher than that of the general population. Genetic factors cannot be ignored in the incidence of colorectal cancer.

3. Some other cancer patients are also prone to colorectal cancer after treatment. For example, patients after breast cancer surgery are prone to colorectal cancer. Some people who have received pelvic radiotherapy have a colorectal cancer incidence rate that is 4 times higher than the average person.

4. Patients with chronic anorectal diseases are also prone to colorectal cancer. The chance of detecting colorectal cancer in people with anorectal diseases is 48 times higher than that of the general population. More than 1/3 of colorectal adenomas will develop after removal, with colorectal tumors in other parts of the body occurring again.

Through the above editor’s description, we can understand that patients with colorectal cancer cannot become pregnant, because if patients with colorectal cancer become pregnant, it will not only affect the fetus, but also have many health effects on themselves. I hope that patients with colorectal cancer can receive correct treatment and care when they are ill and recover as soon as possible.
