Exercise amount for patients with esophageal cancer

Exercise amount for patients with esophageal cancer

How much exercise should patients with esophageal cancer do? How to exercise is a question many patients and their families have. Cancer patients must arrange appropriate exercise according to their condition and must not exercise excessively. If the exercise exceeds the body's tolerance limit and overloads the body whose immune function has already declined, it will be detrimental to the body's recovery.

It is generally recommended to do some housework that does not consume much physical energy, such as washing clothes, cooking, shopping, and sweeping the floor. Suitable sports include walking, fishing, mountain climbing, swimming, traveling, practicing Tai Chi, practicing Guolin Qigong, etc. However, you must take care of your own physical strength.

Patients with esophageal cancer should stop exercising when they feel comfortable, and should not exercise too much just because they feel good. How to judge overload exercise? The first is self-perception. If you have mild shortness of breath, feel your heartbeat quicken, and sweat during exercise, and feel relaxed all over after exercise, this indicates that you are exercising moderately; if you feel difficulty breathing, dizziness, sweating, and rapid heartbeat during exercise, and feel heavy all over after exercise and do not want to move anymore, you should be alert to whether you are exercising too much. The second is heart rate. Exercise should increase the heart rate to achieve the effect of exercise, but the heart rate should generally be kept within 150 beats per minute during exercise.

It is good for the health of patients with esophageal cancer to exercise for half an hour every day. This half an hour is just an approximate time concept. Everyone's physical condition and exercise intensity may not be exactly the same, so the corresponding exercise time does not necessarily have to be half an hour, as long as the effect of exercise is achieved.
