The main symptoms are increased intracranial pressure, including headache, vomiting, and papilledema. Headache is the main symptom of brain tumor space-occupying lesions. It is usually deep and dull pain, which is more severe in the morning or can wake you up at night. It is intermittent at first, and gradually worsens and becomes continuous. It can cause aggravated headaches when coughing, defecating, bending over, or standing up. When vomiting, the contents of the stomach are vomited out quickly and forcefully in the form of a jet, which is called "jet vomiting" and is a typical symptom of increased intracranial pressure.
Optic disc edema is an objective sign. It is found during fundus examination. Patients may have enlarged blind spots in their visual field or blurred vision. Over time, vision deteriorates and the visual field shrinks toward the center. Increased intracranial pressure can also cause diplopia, vertigo, and epileptic seizures. Acute increase in intracranial pressure can cause increased blood pressure, bradycardia, and slowed breathing, which is called the Cushing reaction. Severe increase in intracranial pressure can cause brain herniation and endanger life.
