Friends who choose rhinoplasty generally want their rhinoplasty to look more natural and last longer. Some rhinoplasty prosthetic materials do not pass the test, resulting in nasal infections in some people after rhinoplasty. And because people's demands are getting higher and higher, there are more and more materials to choose from for rhinoplasty. But what kind of prosthesis is better to choose when performing prosthetic rhinoplasty? From my observations over the years, I have found that top doctors in China will recommend expanded polytetrafluoroethylene, while plastic surgeons in Japan and South Korea tend to recommend silicone gel. This is because expanded polytetrafluoroethylene has been shown to be difficult to repair in clinical practice in South Korea over the past few decades. However, expanded polytetrafluoroethylene is more stable, firmer and more natural. Comparison between expanded polytetrafluoroethylene rhinoplasty and silicone rhinoplasty: 1. Expanded polytetrafluoroethylene rhinoplasty has better compatibility with one's own tissues The silicone prosthesis itself has the basic shape of the nose and can be sculpted at will on its basis; the expanded material has a certain flexibility and fits closely with the autologous tissue after insertion, so the postoperative appearance and feel are more natural and realistic. 2. Long-term postoperative condition When organic tissue grows into the expanded material, it will lose its original flexibility and become very hard. Therefore, after a period of time of implantation, the appearance and feel of the nose will lose their realism, and the nose will be dull and unnatural. However, the silicone prosthesis will not change its shape and feel over time. 3. Difficulty of removal Due to the ingrowth of tissue, the expanded polytetrafluoroethylene is tightly integrated with human tissue, and the cavity formed becomes smaller and smaller. In this way, once infection or other adverse reactions occur, removing the expanded polytetrafluoroethylene material is like removing a piece of one's own tissue, which causes greater damage to the nose. The longer the expanded polytetrafluoroethylene material stays in the body, the more difficult it is to remove it. However, because the silicone prosthesis is surrounded by a capsule, once infection occurs, the capsule can be opened and the prosthesis can be removed, causing less damage to the surrounding tissues. 4. Price comparison The cost of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene is generally about twice that of silicone, but the price of the surgery is equivalent to 7 to 10 times that of silicone materials, because the difficulty of sculpting and implanting expanded polytetrafluoroethylene is greater than silicone rhinoplasty, and it requires higher standards from the doctor. If the doctor's skills are not proficient enough, the time the expanded polytetrafluoroethylene is exposed to the air will be greatly prolonged, thereby increasing the probability of infection. Through these advantages and disadvantages, we can see that silicone is a better choice in terms of safety. We have repeatedly emphasized that the first consideration in plastic surgery should be safety, followed by results. |
