What are the sequelae of squamous cell radiotherapy for cervical cancer

Radiotherapy is one of the important methods for treating cervical cancer, but radiotherapy and chemotherapy have serious side effects, which also need to be paid attention to. So what are the side effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy for cervical cancer? How to deal with it? Let's take a look at some side effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy for cervical cancer.

(1) Skin reactions and injuries. In the early stage, there will be redness, itching, pain, or erythema and peeling. In the late stage, there will be pigmentation, atrophy, and deep fibrosis. If the care is not done properly, secondary infection will occur.
(2) Radiation reaction and damage to the gastrointestinal system. Acute radiation esophagitis, gastritis, enteritis, and hepatitis may occur. Common clinical symptoms include pain behind the sternum when swallowing, a small amount of vomiting of blood, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, bleeding, etc.
(3) Radiation-induced lung injury: This is a relatively serious complication during radiotherapy.
(4) Symptoms of radiation damage to the central nervous system include cerebral edema, increased intracranial pressure, headache, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, drowsiness, local brain necrosis, memory loss, and visual loss.
Radiotherapy for cervical cancer has some side effects. It is suitable for all stages of cervical cancer. However, due to the special anatomical and physiological characteristics of the cervix, while the radiation kills cancer cells, it can also damage a large amount of normal tissue in the human body, leading to tissue congestion, edema, and ulcers. In severe cases, necrosis and shedding may occur.
Therefore, women should have a correct view of cervical cancer radiotherapy and undergo cervical cancer radiotherapy that is more suitable for them.
