Is the recurrence rate high after early cervical cancer surgery?

Nowadays, the level of treatment for cervical cancer is becoming more and more advanced. Various methods of treating cervical cancer have emerged, and the treatment effect of cervical cancer is getting better and better. However, the recurrence rate of cervical cancer is not low. Many cervical cancer patients still have recurrence after treatment. The recurrence of cervical cancer brings a heavier blow to patients. The following will introduce to you whether the recurrence rate after early cervical cancer surgery is high?

Recurrence rate of cervical cancer (I) Recurrence time Most recurrences after radiotherapy of cervical cancer occur within 2 years. According to statistics from the Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, 84% of recurrences occur within 2 years. However, 4% still recur 5 to 10 years after treatment. Recurrence after cervical cancer surgery often occurs within 1 year. According to statistics from 1,417 surgical treatments in Shanghai, 61 patients died due to cancer recurrence, of which 45 died within 5 years. After cervical cancer relapses, if not treated, most patients will die within half a year to a year, and only a few can survive for more than 2 years.
(II) Recurrence site: According to literature statistics, the most common recurrence of cervical cancer is local recurrence in the pelvic wall, paracervix and cervix.
(III) Clinical features vary according to the different sites of cancer recurrence. Recurrence in the cervix or vagina often causes irregular vaginal bleeding or foul-smelling leucorrhea. Recurrence in the pelvic wall or paracervix may cause pain and edema in the affected lower limb, pain in the lumbosacral region or lower abdomen. Pelvic examination may show a paracervical mass or a fixed mass in the sacral fossa. Metastasis to the rectum or bladder often causes blood in the stool or urine. Bone metastasis often causes local pain. Lung metastasis may cause cough and chest pain.
(IV) Diagnosis When the above symptoms and signs appear after treatment of cervical cancer, the possibility of recurrence should be considered. Local recurrence of the cervix and vagina can be diagnosed easily by vaginal smear cytology and biopsy. However, recurrence of the paracervix and pelvic wall is difficult to diagnose mainly by clinical symptoms and pelvic examination. Attention should be paid to the differentiation of pelvic masses from lymphocele after thorough treatment, pelvic wall inflammation, and paracervical connective tissue fibrosis after radiotherapy. Local fine needle puncture for cell smear and pathological examination can help to clarify the diagnosis. B-ultrasound, pyelography, isotope renal imaging and CT pelvic examination have certain reference value for diagnosing recurrent cancer.
If you have symptoms of cervical cancer recurrence, you must not take it lightly and think that everything will be fine after cervical cancer treatment. Every cervical cancer patient has the possibility of recurrence. Therefore, cervical cancer patients still need to take relevant care and preventive measures in their daily lives after treatment to avoid the recurrence of cervical cancer.
