Which diseases are easily misdiagnosed as colorectal cancer

Colorectal cancer is a disease that makes everyone shudder. In our daily lives, due to the limitations of medical conditions, many diseases may be misdiagnosed, especially colorectal cancer. Many diseases have similar symptoms and misdiagnosis often occurs. So which diseases are easily misdiagnosed as colorectal cancer?

1. Regional enteritis: It is more common in young people. Common symptoms and signs include abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, weight loss, anemia, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal mass and fistula formation. It can be identified by X-ray barium meal and fiber colonoscopy.

2. Chronic bacillary dysentery: Patients may experience abdominal pain, diarrhea, a little bloody stool, and mild tenesmus. The diagnosis is not difficult to make through stool culture, barium enema and endoscopy.

3. Ulcerative colitis: The symptoms are quite similar to chronic bacillary dysentery, but there is a history of recurrent attacks. Stool culture is negative. Sigmoidoscopy shows fine granular changes in the mucosa, disappearance of vascular texture, accompanied by erythematous congestion and small oval ulcers, the surface of which is often covered with yellow-white exudate. In severe cases, there are large irregular ulcers.

4. Hemorrhoids: Rectal cancer is often mistaken for hemorrhoids. Generally, internal hemorrhoids are mostly painless bleeding with bright color that cannot be confused with stool. However, the blood in the stool of patients with intestinal cancer is often accompanied by mucus and rectal irritation symptoms. Rectal digital examination and sigmoidoscopy can be used for differentiation.

5. Amebic enteritis: When the lesion develops into the chronic stage, the granulation tissue at the base of the ulcer proliferates and the surrounding fibers proliferate, causing the intestinal wall to thicken and the intestinal cavity to narrow, which can easily be misdiagnosed as cancer. At this time, a biopsy is required.
